First decide whether the job needs a torque tool

Match the range, drive and interface

  • Range: confirm that the target falls within the maker's declared usable and accuracy range, not merely below the printed maximum.
  • Interface: choose the drive and bit that fully fit the fastener. Adapter stacks add access and alignment problems.
  • Direction: confirm whether the tool is specified to measure in the direction required by the joint.
